US COVID-19 Cases Are Surging. Why Herd Immunity isn’t the way out!

0

The natural end of COVID-19 is a long way to go. A new analysis says only 14% of the US population has been affected with SAR-COV2 and public health experts say without a vaccination, five times more people need to be naturally infected before herd immunity is reached.

Now, what is herd Immunity?

Herd immunity is a form of indirect protection from infectious disease when a sufficient percentage of a population has become immune to an infection, whether through vaccination or previous infections thereby reducing the likelihood of infection for individuals who lack immunity.

Experts, therefore, doubt natural herd immunity as its reachability in the case of COVID has fluctuating thresholds. In those cases, vaccination will be the best way out to save lives and return to normalcy.

Are search conducted by Stanford University says only 9% of the US population had developed COVID-19 antibodies? So herd immunity is nowhere near hence all we should do is to look forward towards the vaccine.
